Computers, iPads & WiFi

Public Computers

PCL offers computers for use by patrons with a valid library account. Guest passes are available at the second floor information desk for visitors without a library account. Public computers include access to:

  • Internet
  • Software: Microsoft Office 2016 including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint
  • Magic®-Screen magnification software with speech
  • Open Book-Scanning and reading software
  • JAWS® for Windows®-Screen reading software, speech with or without magnification

iPads

PCL offers iPads available for use inside the building. iPads may be checked out with a valid library card at the second floor information desk for up to 3 hours.

The Children’s Room offers 5 iPads loaded with educational apps appropriate for children. There is no Internet access available on the Children’s Room iPads.


Wi-Fi

PCL offers free Wi-Fi throughout the building. The name (SSID) of our wireless network is: Pittsford

To use the Library's Wi-Fi service, you must have a computer device that supports wireless access. The Library Wi-Fi is not secure and use of it is at your own risk; you must also take every precaution to secure your equipment and personal belongings while in the library. Even with firewall and antivirus protection on your device, it is not recommended to access, send or receive personal and/or sensitive information using public hotspots.

Printing, Copying, Scanning & Faxing

Printing, copying, scanning, and faxing are available near the Information Desk on the 2nd floor. Printing is available in-person and wirelessly from a mobile device, laptop, or PC.

Wireless Printing

Go to PCL’s Wireless Printing page to submit documents to print using Princh, a cloud-based wireless printing service. A free Princh app is available for mobile devices. PCL’s printer ID is 108919.

Printing and Copying Costs per Page

      Black and white 8 ½ x 11”     20¢

Scanning

Scanning is available from the copier near the Information Desk on the 2nd floor. There is no charge for scanning. Scanned documents can be saved to a flash drive or emailed to a personal account.


Faxing

Faxing within the USA, Canada and the Caribbean is payable by credit card only and costs:

  1. First page: $1.75
  2. Subsequent pages: $1.00

International faxing is payable by credit card only and costs:

  1. First page: $3.95
  2. Subsequent pages: $3.45

Reserve a Room

Study Rooms

PCL has three study rooms available on the second floor. Please read the Library’s Room Use Policy and the guidelines listed below before making a reservation. Check-in and check-out is at the second floor information desk.

  • For individuals or groups up to four (4) people.
  • May be reserved up to three (3) consecutive hours per day up to seven (7) days in advance.
  • Reservations are limited to one per person or group at a time.
  • If an individual or group is not present 30 minutes past the start of their reservation, the room may be reassigned. Rooms will be relinquished if left for more than 30 minutes.
  • Whiteboard markers and erasers are available by request at the second floor information desk.
  • Library rooms are not soundproof; please be considerate of others.
  • Lights must be left on at all times.
  • The Library is not responsible for personal items left unattended.
  • Groups and individuals using the Library’s study rooms must abide by the Rules of Conduct for Library Users.

Fletcher Steele Room

The Fletcher Steele Room is a conference room on the second floor. Please read the Library’s Room Use Policy and the guidelines listed below before making a reservation. Check-in and check-out is at the second floor information desk.

  • For groups up to 14 people.
  • May be reserved up to 90 days in advance and prior to 48 hours of the reservation date. To ensure equitable use, the Library reserves the right to limit usage to eight (8) hours per group or individual per week.
  • If an individual or group is not present 30 minutes past the start of their reservation, the room may be reassigned. The room will be relinquished if it is left for more than 30 minutes.
  • A large touchscreen computer is available upon request.
  • Library rooms are not soundproof; please be considerate of others.
  • The Library is not responsible for personal items left unattended.
  • Individuals and groups using the Fletcher Steele Room should abide by the Rules of Conduct for Library Users.

Fisher Meeting Room

The Fisher Meeting Room is on the first floor. Please read the Library’s Room Use Policy and the guidelines listed below before making a reservation. Check-in and check-out is at the Welcome Desk.

  • For groups up to 80 people.
  • May be reserved up to 90 days in advance and prior to 48 hours of the reservation date. To ensure equitable use, the Library reserves the right to limit usage to eight (8) hours per group or individual per week.
  • If an individual or group is not present 30 minutes past the start of their reservation, the room may be reassigned. The room will be relinquished if it is left for more than 30 minutes.
  • Table and chair arrangements may be selected during the reservation process.
  • A projection system, microphones, assistive learning devices, speaker system, and podium are available upon request.
  • Library rooms are not soundproof; please be considerate of others.
  • The Library is not responsible for personal items left unattended.
  • Individuals and groups using the Fisher Meeting Room should abide by the Rules of Conduct for Library Users.

Reserve a Display Case

Two hallway display cases are available for reservation on a monthly basis. Reservations open on November 1st for the following year. Reservations are first come, first served as space and time allow.

Display reservations for 2025 are open. To reserve a display case, complete the Reservation Form and Guidelines and return it to the library. The form can also be emailed to Kate Procious at kate.procious@libraryweb.org. Please call the library with any questions at (585) 248-6275.

Adults

Volunteer for the Friends of the Pittsford Community Library

The Friends of the Pittsford Community Library are a volunteer community that raises funding though books sales to augment Library programs, materials, services, and special projects.

Teens

Teen Community Service

Teens in grades 6 – 12 can volunteer at the library during designated hours. Register  for Teen Community Service using our online calendar.

Teen Program Assistance

Teens in grades 9-12 can become Teen Program Assistants. TPA's help out at events like Bingo, Tie Dye, and more. Download a TPA Application, fill it out, and bring it to a TPA orientation. Register for TPA orientations using our online calendar.

Museum and Empire Passes

Museum & Theatre Passes

Explore Monroe County’s museums and attractions with the Very Important Places (VIP) pass. If you have a library card, you can check out a pass to get discounted admission prices to select Monroe County museums and cultural institutions. Bring the pass to the venue and enjoy discounted admissions or ticket purchases. Ask at the Welcome Desk for details and availability: (585) 249-5481.
